Why We Research
More than one in every two adult Americans (54%) suffer from at least one musculoskeletal (MSK) disease. Worldwide, billions of humans are affected. As we age, we start to lose both muscle mass and muscle strength, a condition called sarcopenia. In bones, a similar process occurs, called osteoporosis. The cost of treating MSK diseases in the US is about $1 trillion per year, and the health and social consequences are astounding. Therefore, we research to discover basic mechanisms and treatments of these diseases. Our goal is to improve the lives of all; we believe that everyone deserves to live strong, healthy, lives.
